If you are comfortable installing server software, there are two flavours of Elgg you can choose from: the full package or the Elgg core.

The full Elgg package is the core Elgg engine plus the following plugins pre-loaded: blogs, files, pages, bookmarks, messageboard, status, TinyMCE and private messages.

Installing Elgg

We have gone to great lengths to make Elgg the easiest social networking software to install.

With most of the setup being handled for you, installing Elgg should take no more than 3 minutes! Not bad to get a fully featured social network.

Here are some installation instructions and technical requirements.

Upgrading from version 1.0+

  1. Download the new version of Elgg
  2. Overwrite your existing Elgg files
  3. Visit http://your-elgg-site-URL/upgrade.php
